Episode 461: Big Trouble in Little China

The B-Movie Cast is back! Mary and Nic are joined by Mark Mawston and this week we’re checking out a John Carpenter classic: “Big Trouble in Little China”! This 1986 20th Century Fox release was, like many of Carpenter’s films, not a box office success, but quickly developed a cult following and became a hit on home video. So get ready to dive into long-haul trucking, Kung-Fu, Chinese mysticism, and more snappy dialogue than you can shake a six-demon bag at as the B-Movie Cast checks out “Big Trouble in Little China” as part of our unintentional series of Victor Wong movies!

Episode 442: Trancers

The B-Movie Cast is back… sort of. We recorded a few episodes in preparation for Mary going off the air for 6-8 weeks during the nuclear plant shutdown she works at called ‘the outage’. What we didn’t know when we put these episodes ‘in the can’ was that Mary would be opting out of doing the outage this year due to health concerns. Don’t worry, she’s fine, she wanted to stay fine so she’s staying home with Kitty her cat. That said, we still have a few pre-recorded episodes and this is one of them!

Last episode was Nik Havert’s “Monster Music Cast” and now Mary and Nic back and we’re joined once again by Brian Cunningham, filmmaker and co-owner of Thoughtfly Studios in Louisville Kentucky. The gang is checking out another 80s flick. This time it’s “Trancers” from 1985! This is a definite ‘Nic-pick’ film but that’s OK because everyone enjoyed it… even if Nic does end up spending half the cast defending the merits of this 80s ‘mockbuster’ of “The Terminator”.

By the way, what’s even better than doing a podcast on a time travel movie? Time traveling during the time travel cast! Well we did it! Mary, Nic and Brian got together again to record the feedback and the contest sections of the cast. That’s right we visit the past during this episode! I don’t think we changed the future… we’ll see.

So don’t be a squid! Grab a drink, a TV dinner and your long-second watch and check out the “Trancers” episode of the B-Movie Cast!

Also- for a bit of fun- check out this video from artist Casey Knoll. Casey did the cover for the new “B-Movie Cookbook: The 1960s” and she created a video showing how she worked her magic! It’s amazing to see the images come to life and it’s also got a kicking-60s theme-song montage to accompany it!

Episode 440: YOR: Hunter from the Future

The B-Movie Cast is back again! This time we’re getting our furry-80s loin clothes out and tackling “YOR: Hunter from the Future”. As the theme song tells you he’s a man of mystery and always on the run, but we caught up with him!
Joining Mary and Nic is Dr. Adrian Smith. He’s back because he wasn’t happy with just 89 minutes worth of English language YOR- nope, he found the 210-minute-long, 4 part, Italian miniseries that was the original running length of this film!

So if you have an urge to see actor Reb Brown run through the desert and fight really slow, awkwardly moving dinosaurs then you’re in luck with this episode! But be warned, Reb Brown’s voice will occasionally comment on the show with his famous ‘cover up the burp’ line from the film! So grab a beer, heat up that TV dinner and sit back and enjoy the B-Movie Cast’s take on “YOR: Hunter from the Future” and while you’re at it, think about which of the sports you want to try out in the YOR-Olympics!

Episode 421: Time Rider The Adventure of Lyle Swann

In this episode of The B-Movie Cast Mary, Juan and Nic ask the question: “What if a motocross racer were to accidentally be sent back in time to the old west and he didn’t notice?” Well, fortunately, Michael Nesmith of the 60s band The Monkees asked the same thing, only he made a movie about it! That’s right this episode is about the time traveling western motorcycle film- “Time Rider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann”.

“Time Rider” stars Fred Ward (“Tremors”, “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins”) and features all those actors you recognize but just can’t quite name… like that guy from that movie that was out that one year… Oh and Peter Coyote!

So sit back, grab a TV dinner, a beer and tune in for “Time Rider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann” on the B-Movie Cast!

Episode 409: Better Off Dead

Hey, B-Movie Cast listeners we’ve got a special episode in store for you this time! Mary and Nic take a look at the 1985 teen comedy classic from writer/director Savage Steve Holland- “Better Off Dead” starring John Cusack and Diane Franklin. Speaking of Diane Franklin, she joins us on the show too! Nic had the chance to chat with her about the film and some of her new projects. So grab a TV dinner, a cold beer and check out the newest episode of the B-Movie Cast as we find out that being a teen in the 80s is tough, but don’t worry, you’re never Better Off Dead!
