Episode 454: The Ghoul (1933)

The B-Movie Cast is back! This episode Mary and Nic are joined by our resident Egyptologist, Eric Brooks, to look at a film about another Egyptologist: “The Ghoul” from 1933. Considered the first true British horror film after the silent film era, “The Ghoul” features Boris Karloff playing Henry Morlant, a dying Egyptologist who is obsessed with the idea that he can enter the Egyptian afterlife if he rises from the dead and gives an ancient jewel to the God Anubis. Unfortunately for Morlant, everyone and their uncle seems to know about the jewel and want it for their own nefarious purposes. So grab yourself a cold one and tune in for episode 454: “The Ghoul”.

Episode 446: Earth Vs the Spider (AKA- The Spider)

In this episode of The B-Movie Cast, Mary and Nic are joined by Eric Brooks. Though Eric’s specialty is all things Egyptian, he decided to join us for something BIG, and by “BIG” we mean Bert I. Gordon. The gang are checking out one of Mr. B.I.G.’s big creature features: “Earth Vs the Spider” (AKA- “The Spider”). It’s a tale of one giant arachnid who just wants to make some new friends. Unfortunately, by making friends we mean sucking all the juice from their bodies and leaving them dead, dried up husks!
This film is a classic of 50’s sci-fi/horror and it’s a whole lot of fun to watch! So grab your favorite BIG beverage and maybe that extra BIG popcorn and tune for this episode of The B-Movie Cast!

Episode 433: Clive Barker’s Nightbreed

On this episode of the B-Movie Cast Mary and Nic are joined by two special guests from the U.K.: show regular, photographer & writer Mark Mawston and filmmaker John Stevenson (director of “Kung Fu Panda” and “Sherlock Gnomes”).

We start the show off with our top movie picks from 2019. We’re not just talking new films, we’re also looking at any movies we saw for the first time in 2019. Then the gang is taking a look at one of Clive Barker’s most interesting, and controversial, films: “Nightbreed” from 1990. This is a film that turns the idea of horror on its head. It asks the question “what if the monsters were the heroes?”. While Barker’s original film clocked in at over 2.5 hours, the studio released a heavily edited cut that just ran 1 hour & 42 minutes. However, we’re checking out one of the ‘director’s cut versions which has more than 20 minutes of additional footage.

So join us in looking at a lost gem featuring amazing make-up and practical special effects as well as a truly original story from one of horror’s legends; Clive Barker!

Episode 429: Prophecy (1979)

The B-Movie Cast is back! This episode Mary and Nic welcome special guest Fiona Young-Brown, author, editor, ghostwriter and owner of BritishFoodandTravel.com to the show. The gang is checking out another flick from 1979, this time it’s a mutant bear stalking the New England woods in Prophecy. This is a favorite go-to monster flick for Nic and even more surprising, of Fiona’s too! So get ready to be lectured on the effects of mercury poisoning right before a bear that looks like a giant killer sausage shows up to rip your face off! But don’t worry, this is the B-Movie cast so no mutant bears were harmed in the making of this episode!

Episode 402: Island Claws

This time on the B-Movie Podcast, Mary, Nic and Juan check out a film by the guys behind the 60’s TV show “Flipper”. Only this film isn’t about a friendly dolphin… it’s old school B-Movie fun with a giant killer crab! “Island Claws” makes you want to hop in the car and head to Joe’s Crab Shack to take out revenge for humankind!
