Episode 502: It’s Alive! (1974)

After a longer than expected hiatus, the B-Movie Cast is back again! This time Mary and Nic are joined by gentle listener, and fellow podcaster Bill Mize! Bill took a break from board gaming and podcasting to join us for a family film of a different sort- the 1974 cult classic “It’s Alive”! Writer, director Larry Cohen works out some daddy issues in this film about a mutant, killer baby, and a father torn between his repulsion at the monster and his love for his child. It’s a better film than it should be, with social messages, character growth, and a couple of quick looks at FX master Rick Baker’s crazy killer baby suit! Get ready for some crazy baby physics and a lot of weirdness as the B-Movie Cast checks out “It’s Alive”!

Zdravstvuyte Comrades! Welcome to a new B-Movie Cast! This week Mary and Nic are joined by Matt Kowalski and we’re checking out another New Year’s favorite from behind the iron curtain: “Morozko” AKA- “Father Frost”! This flick has been lampooned on MST3K and Riff Trax, now it’s the B-Movie Cast’s turn to show some love to one of Gorky Studio’s most successful exports from the Soviet era! Tune in to learn about how Russian women can control time and space and why you should always be nice to that old dude in the woods! So, grab some vodka, a bowl of borscht, and get ready for “Father Frost” on the B-Movie Cast!

Episode 468: The Skull

The B-Movie Cast is back! Mary and Nic are on their own this week as Juan was in the middle of a two-day power outage! That’s OK though because there was enough spooky fun to keep it real as we check out “The Skull” from 1965. This British horror film directed by Freddie Francis for Amicus Productions and starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. What happens when a Phrenologist digs up the head of the Marquis de Sade? Nothing good I assure you! So, grab some marshmallows, a cold drink, and a comfy chair and get ready for a horror movie ‘a head’ of its time with “The Skull”

Episode 465: Secret of the Incas

The B-Movie Cast is back! In this episode, Mary and Nic are joined by Eric Brooks. Eric is our resident Egyptologist and Indiana Jones cosplayer, so we decided to check out a recommendation of his: the 1954 Paramount adventure film “The Secret of the Incas”. Watch as Charlton Heston shows us what Indiana Jones would be like if Indy was a greedy, womanizing, con-man… and yet Nicole Maurey still wants to find his treasure! So grab your fedora and leather jacket and get ready for adventure on this episode of The B-Movie Cast!

Speaking of adventure… Here’s some pics from Eric when he visited Machu Picchu and when he cosplays as Indiana Jones!

Episode 455: House 1977 (Japanese title- Hausu)

The B-Movie Cast is back! We’ve got a special guest this week- Dr. Smith! No, not that one, the British one! Dr. Adrian Smith! Adrian is joining Mary and Nic to check out the gonzo Japanese horror film from 1977: “House” (Nihongo de: Hausu).

This was writer/director Nobuhiko Obayashi’s fever dream ghost story from Toho Studios. Toho saw that “Jaws” was a hit and ask Obayashi to make something like “Jaws” for them. Well… he definitely made a movie, but the only things it has in common with Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster is that they were both filmed on 35mm film stock! “House” is a head trip, but well worth the price of admission!
So grab an Asahi beer, order up some sushi and check out the Japanese horror classic “House”!

Episode 443: This Island Earth

In this episode of the B-Movie Cast Mary and Nic are joined by Juan. The 70s and 80s are great and all, but it was time to head back to our B-Movie roots. We looked at the films we’d covered and realized that there were a couple of startling holes in our 50s’ movie coverage. One of them was the classic film “This Island Earth”!

The gang gets out our Interocitors and dives into this sci-fi classic. A big studio film that took 2 ½ years to make, “This Island Earth” is a favorite of ours and we think you’ll enjoy it too! So sit back, grab a beer, heat up that TV dinner and check out the new episode of the B-Movie Cast!
